    Jason Isaacson Seminar "Trump's Middle East Policy and the Revival of Anti-Semitism"

    The Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) hosted a seminar on January 25, 2019 inviting Mr. Jason Isaacson, Associate Executive Director of American Jewish Committee (AJC).
    Mr. Jason Isaacson had a speech about 1) Israel’s recent surroundings and relationships with the Arab world, 2) Middle East Policy by the Trump administration and 3) the revival of anti-semitism in the U.S. and Western Europe. Afterwards, there were discussions with participants.

    CIGS and Stimson Joint Seminar "Course Change or Full Speed Ahead? Post-Midterm U.S Foreign Policy's Impact on Indo-Pacific"

    On November 2, 2018, four days before the U.S. midterm elections, the Stimson Center and the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) together hosted a panel discussion analyzing the potential effects of the U.S. midterm elections on foreign policy toward the Indo-Pacific region. Moderated by East Asia Program Co-Director Yuki Tatsumi, the panel featured Kuni Miyake from CIGS, Ambassador Derek Mitchell from the National Democratic Institute, and Daniel Twining from the International Republican Institute.

    CIGS and Stimson Joint Seminar "Post-Election Priorities for Japan and the United States"

    On September 20, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to be re-elected as the president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, which will extend his term as prime minister until 2021. The United States is preparing for a mid-term election in November. What are the post-election foreign and national security policy priorities for the leaders of the two countries? The Stimson Center and the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) will host a panel discussion on these issues. Joining us for this timely conversation are Kuni Miyake, Research Director for Foreign and National Security Affairs at the Canon Institute for Global Studies, Daniel Twining, President of the International Republican Institute, and Yuki Tatsumi, Co-Director of Stimson’s East Asia Program.

    CIGS and Stimson Joint Seminar "Beyond the Trump-Kim Summit"

    On May 29, 2018, the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) and the Stimson Center together hosted a panel discussion analyzing the prospects and pitfalls of North Korea’s denuclearization process, emphasizing the national interests of the East Asian actors surrounding the Hermit Kingdom. The panel was moderated by Yuki Tatsumi, and included Katsu Furukawa, Ph.D., a former member of the U.N. Panel of Experts on Sanctions against North Korea, Frank Januzzi, President of the Mansfield Foundation, Jenny Town, Managing Editor at 38 North and Yun Sun, Co-Director of the East Asia Program at Stimson.

    On December 14, 2017, the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) and the Stimson Center co-hosted a panel discussion reflecting on the first year of the Trump administration, with a focus on the geopolitical impact of the administration’s foreign policy in Eurasia. The panel was moderated by Yuki Tatsumi and included Kunihiko Miyake from CIGS, Daniel Twining from the International Republican Institute, and Ellen Laipson from George Mason University and Stimson.

Walker, Transatlantic Fellow of German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF, one of the prominent think-tanks based in Washington DC and unique in its objective of strengthening transatlantic cooperation), as a speaker to discuss the political development in Turkey and its alliance with the United States.

    "Discussion with Professor Aaron L. Friedberg"

    On June 25th 2013, Dr. Aaron L. Friedberg, Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University, was invited to visit the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) for an informal discussion with members of CIGS and local experts on issues raised in his book titled “A Contest for Supremacy: China, America and the Struggle for Mastery in Asia,” which has recently been translated for publication in Japan.
