Privacy Policy

The Canon Institute for Global Studies (the “Institute”) fully recognizes that personal information provided by users (the “Users”) through this website is important property of each User and that the protection of such personal information is one of the social responsibilities to be fulfilled by the Institute. Therefore, the Institute makes its utmost efforts to ensure that the User’s personal information is appropriately protected so that the User’s privacy right is fully respected.

To make this policy effective, the Institute makes its officers and employees aware of the importance of protection of personal information and is responsible for the actions taken by them with respect to the personal information.

Acknowledging the importance of protection of personal information, the Institute declares the following privacy policy:

1. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

The Institute complies with the laws and regulations pertaining to the protection of personal information in Japan as well as rules and guidelines provided by the Japanese government.

2. Collection of Personal Information

At the time of obtaining personal information, the Institute clearly informs the User for what purposes the User’s personal information will be used.

3. Purposes of Use of Personal Information

The Institute uses the User’s personal information within the scope of the designated purposes which are informed to the User at the time of collection.

4. Control of Personal Information

The Institute appropriately controls all Users’ personal information by taking necessary measures to prevent any unauthorized access, theft, loss resulting from transfer, destruction, falsification, divulgence or similar incidents. It will take immediate remedial actions if any of such incidents occurs.

5. Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties

Unless specifically required by the laws or regulations, the Institute never provides or releases the User’s personal information to any third party without the consent of individual User.

6. Disclosure and Correction of Personal Information, Suspension of Use of Personal Information and Other Requests

The User is at any time entitled to request to disclose him or her his or her personal information held by the Institute, to correct, add or delete a part of his or her personal information, to suspend use of his or her personal information by the Institute or to erase his or her personal information entirely from the Institution’s database. The Institute will respond swiftly to such User’s request after confirming identification of the User so requesting.

7. Continuous Efforts to Improve the Compliance System

The Institute will continuously review and improve its policy, structure, internal rules, and other systems to protect personal information in response to changes in its activities and in the statutory, social and IT environments.
