    CIGS and Stimson Joint Seminar "Beyond the Trump-Kim Summit"

    On May 29, 2018, the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) and the Stimson Center together hosted a panel discussion analyzing the prospects and pitfalls of North Korea’s denuclearization process, emphasizing the national interests of the East Asian actors surrounding the Hermit Kingdom. The panel was moderated by Yuki Tatsumi, and included Katsu Furukawa, Ph.D., a former member of the U.N. Panel of Experts on Sanctions against North Korea, Frank Januzzi, President of the Mansfield Foundation, Jenny Town, Managing Editor at 38 North and Yun Sun, Co-Director of the East Asia Program at Stimson.

    CIGS and Stimson Joint Seminar "The Impact of the Trump Presidency, Year 1: American and Japanese Perspectives"

    On December 14, 2017, the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) and the Stimson Center co-hosted a panel discussion reflecting on the first year of the Trump administration, with a focus on the geopolitical impact of the administration’s foreign policy in Eurasia. The panel was moderated by Yuki Tatsumi and included Kunihiko Miyake from CIGS, Daniel Twining from the International Republican Institute, and Ellen Laipson from George Mason University and Stimson.

    On June 16, 2017, the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) and the Stimson Center co-hosted a panel discussion about how the U.S. and Japan should approach strategy in Eurasia. The panel was moderated by Yuki Tatsumi, and featured Ellen Laipson and Sameer Lalwani from the Stimson Center, and Kunihiko Miyake and Ken Jimbo from CIGS.

    On January 25, 2017, the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) and the Stimson Center co-hosted a panel discussion about opportunities and challenges for the U.S.-Japan relationship, particularly in the context of the new Trump administration.
    The panel was moderated by Yuki Tatsumi, and featured Daniel Twining from the German Marshall Fund, Julianna Smith from the Center for a New American Security, Kunihiko Miyake from the CIGS, and Ken Jimbo from CIGS.

    Dr Joshua W. Walker Special Seminar: "US Foreign Policy Lessons for Allies: The Case of Turkey"

    The Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) hosted a lunchtime seminar on December 2, 2014 inviting Dr Joshua W. Walker, Transatlantic Fellow of German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF, one of the prominent think-tanks based in Washington DC and unique in its objective of strengthening transatlantic cooperation), as a speaker to discuss the political development in Turkey and its alliance with the United States.

    "Discussion with Professor Aaron L. Friedberg"

    On June 25th 2013, Dr. Aaron L. Friedberg, Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University, was invited to visit the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) for an informal discussion with members of CIGS and local experts on issues raised in his book titled “A Contest for Supremacy: China, America and the Struggle for Mastery in Asia,” which has recently been translated for publication in Japan.

    Mr. Tom Malinowski Special Lecture

    Mr.Vance Serchuk, CIGS international research fellow, invited Mr.Tom Malinowski who is the Washington Director of Human Rights Wach to CIGS foreign policy workshop. Mr. Malinowski lectured his experience and the situations in North Korea, Syria and Myammer and led a discussion with Japanese experts.
