In this column series, Yukihiro Matsuyama, Research Director at CIGS introduces the latest information about aging, safety net and fiscal crisis in Japan with data of international comparison.

The number of divorces and the divorce rate in Japan have declined after reaching a peak in 2002. In comparison, Japan's divorce rate is the lowest among other advanced countries.
